IlijaisamemberoftheCroatianDefenceCouncil(HVO)somewhereinCentralBosniainlate1993.Onemorning,afteraroutineminelayingcampaign,helearnshisyoungerbrotherGoranwaskilledfarbeyondenemylines,togetherwitheightothersoldiers.Throughafriendfromthesecretservice,hefindsoutthemissionwasanunofficialoneandthatGoranandtheotherswereactingasmercenaries.Ilijabeginstoexposeanetworkofillegalactivityinvolvingnotonlythemilitary,buthigh-rankingofficials.Astheinvestigationbecomesmoredangerous,hisoriginalintentiontofindoutthetruthslowlyturnsintoapathologicalmissionofvengeance.
